Street Pastors Launched!

The Launch of Street Pastors in Croydon went ahead on Sunday 22 July 2007 at The Salvation Army Croydon Citadel, and was attended by approximately 120 people representing a wide range of church backgrounds.

The event featured opening worship and then three speakers from the ‘Urban Trinity’ – the Council, the Police and the Churches. Both Inspector Jackie Nicholas (Central Croydon Safer Neighbourhood Panels) and Darren Kidson (Community Safety) spoke very positively of their backing for Street Pastors and looked forward to working with the initiative in reducing the fear of crime on our streets.

Rev. Les Isaac was his usual informative and humorous self, and led the congregation through the vision and values of Street Pastors before making an appeal for people to respond to the challenge. Twenty-four people stepped forward to register for the Training Course which began on September 8 at St. Mark’s Church, Brixton, and were prayed for collectively. We hope to see the first teams on the streets during October.
