Thank God for the Health Service

What do you think of when someone says “Health Service”? Do you think of something negative or  positive?
Recently I was watching an American news programme in which they were reporting on the rising cost of health care in the USA (of which I am a citizen). Apparently residents in some states are experiencing problems with large numbers of highly venomous rattle snakes which find their way into homes and businesses. As a result, many people and pets are needing treatment after having been bitten.

I was shocked to discover that one vile of rattlesnake anti-venom (enough to treat a dog) cost over $8,000 (£4,000)! I later discovered that one woman who was bitten by a  rattlesnake needed 8 injections of anti-venom at a cost of over $64,000 (£32,000)!

It may be true that we have to deal with waiting lists and less than perfect facilities, but the next time you want to   complain about the health service, remember one important factor: cost! Here in Britain we get a very good service,    paid for through our taxes, which means no sudden,  unexpected or oversized bills. Even our private medicine is a fraction of the cost due to subsidies.

I thank God for the British Health Service – may we never loose it!”
