Croydon School Pastors
Following a pilot scheme in Purley in June 2008, School Pastors, the latest initiative from Ascension Trust ( the organisation responsible for Street Pastors) is up and running in Croydon.
The aim of School Pastors is to link with schools, get to know the pupils and then, at the end of the school day, to walk with them to the busstops and travel across Croydon on the buses, helping children to get home safely.
The first team was made up of six members from Purley churches who linked up with their local school, Thomas More, each Monday at the end of the school day.(see video above).
More recently School Pastors has launched in the centre of Croydon, working with St Andrew's High School.
The initiative is being supported by local police who have provided funding.
Ascension Trust hope that eventually there will be School Pastors across the whole of London.
Training is only 2 days and anyone interested in becoming a Croydon School Pastor should contact Pam Searle (co-ordinator) Tel: 07984 374830; Email: croydon@streetpastors.org.uk
